This is the first year my child is playing soccer, is there a beginner level?

Our league offers three competitive levels of teams. Class 1 is the most competitive, Class 3 (also referred to as upper house), and Class 4 (referred to house or recreational). DUSL may not offer teams in every age group and classification. It is dependent on coaching and player availability/participation.

Class 1 is the most competitive. Teams are selected via a tryout system. Teams are grouped by single year - U10, U11, U12, etc. Tryouts are typically in the Spring, tournaments in late summer and league season in the fall. The State Cup competition is in the winter.
Class 3 is also competitive with teams being selected via a tryout system. Also, referred to as upper house. Tryouts are typically in the Spring, tournaments in late summer and league season in the fall. The Chevrolet Cup (statewide) competition is in the winter. Teams are grouped by two years - U10, U12, U14, etc. for tournaments and Chevrolet Cup. When possible teams are grouped by single year for league play.
Class 4 is also referred to as house or recreational. There is NOT a tryout to be placed on a house team. The boys and girls match secretaries place players on teams based on a number of factors. Teams are grouped by two years - U6, U8, U10, U12, etc. If in a particular age group there are enough players to form at least four teams we will split into single year age grouping. For example, for the 2002 season enough U8 age boys registered to have six U7 teams and seven U8 teams.

When will I hear what team my child is on?

Coaches are notified in July of rosters. Coaches contact players and normally start practice in mid-August.

When and where are practices?

The coaches, who are parent volunteers, set the practice times and locations at the local schools and parks. Typically, the U5 and U6 age groups practice a few times before the season starts and do not practice during the week once the season starts. The older age groups usually practice twice a week.

When does the season start?

The regular season starts the weekend after Labor Day and goes to mid-November. Depending on age group Dublin Cup and Crossroads goes to early December. Games are on Saturdays. A schedule of game times is provided to the coaches for distribution to the team a couple of weeks prior to the start of the season.

Where are the games played during league season?

Class 1 and 3 teams play other teams in our district which includes leagues from Danville, San Ramon, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, Fremont and Newark. Class 4 (house) teams for the U6 through U10 age groups play against other Dublin teams at the Sports Grounds or Emerald Glen Park. U12 and U14 Class 4 teams may play with San Ramon teams. U16 and U19 Class 4 teams play throughout the district, similar to Class 1 and Class 3.

When are tryouts for Class 1 and Class 3 teams?

Tryouts are in the spring. Tryout schedules are posted on the website and a mailer is sent to all families. Competitive team questions should be directed to the coaching coordinator at coaches@dusl.org.

What if my child changes their mind about playing?

You may request refund by email to reg@dusl.org or in writing to DUSL, P.O. Box 2485, Dublin, CA 94568. You will receive a full refund if the request is made prior to July 1^st. A $25 administrative fee is applied starting July 1^st. No refunds are made after the start of the season (weekend after Labor Day).

How do I get a uniform for my child?

Please contact Tom Rhoads at equip@dusl.org to order a uniform if your child is participating on a recreational team. The uniform consists of a reversible jersey, black shorts and white socks for the U5-U10 players. For the U12 and older players the uniform consists of one white jersey, one green jersey, black shorts and white socks. Players will also need to purchase soccer cleats and shin guards. In order to ensure that your child has a uniform before September, you must order 3-4 months prior to the start of the season, as soccer uniforms are not available off the rack. Players on competitive team (Class 1 and Class 3) coordinate the purchase of the uniform through their team.
