The following stories have been shared to show support of the DUSL ACT.

My name is Ralph N. I am a Navy veteran that is rated at a 100 percent. If the DUSL Act is passed it would allow me to have a better quality of life for both myself and my family. I have a special needs daughter that will require life long care. My wife sacrificed her career to stay home and care for our daughter. I have been saving money for her care after I am no longer here. By passing this Act it would be a great deal of help in making our savings go even farther in both my families medical expenses and quality of life. To any member of Congress, if you read this please pass the DUSL Act.

My name is Robin N., and I am the proud wife of Ralph N., a Navy veteran who is rated at 100 percent for service-connected disabilities. Ralph served his country with honor and integrity and now lives every day with the physical and emotional consequences of that sacrifice. But our greatest challenge is not just his injuries, it is the lifelong care our daughter will require. We have a beautiful girl with special needs, and from the moment she was born, our lives changed forever. We quickly realized she would need full-time care and unwavering support every single day of her life. Without hesitation, I left behind my career, a career I loved so I could be there for her completely. Being her full-time caregiver is the most important role I will ever have, but it also comes with immense emotional, physical, and financial strain. Ralph carries a heavy burden, not just from his service, but from the fear of what will happen to our daughter after he is gone. He saves every dollar he can to make sure she will be taken care of when he no longer can be. We do not ask for much, just a chance at a stable future for our child, and a life of dignity for me. The DUSL Act could be a lifeline. It would stretch the savings Ralph has worked so hard to build. It would help cover the rising costs of medical care, specialized therapies, and the support our daughter will always need. Most of all, it would give us peace of mind, something that has become rare in our lives. I am asking, from the depths of a mother’s heart, to please pass the DUSL Act. Families like ours are quietly fighting every day, not for luxury, not for ease, but for survival and for a future where our loved ones are safe when we can no longer be there. Please help us carry that load.

As a single mother of three, I've faced my share of challenges. Medically retired from the US Army in 2015, I navigated raising my children alone while dealing with my own health issues. Having access to my 401(k) funds before turning 59 1/2 would have greatly alleviated some of the financial stress I endured during those tough years. I believe the DUSL Act would make a significant difference for veterans like me, providing crucial support during difficult times. I firmly believe that passing the DUSL Act would be a significant step forward for veterans. By allowing 100% service-connected disabled and TDIU veterans to access their 401(k) funds penalty-free and tax-free, we can provide crucial support without placing an additional financial burden on the American people or government. It's a matter of recognizing the sacrifices made by our nation's heroes and providing them with the financial flexibility they deserve.

I am 100% and lost my job of 25 years due to my service connected disabilities. I decided to go ahead and file for SSDI and the process is such a long process (almost 2 years now) that I have had to dip into my IRA twice now to help make ends meet. It would be nice to be able to take that money out tax free at any time as I am not planning on going back to work. Thanks

I was out of work in October of 2023 due to severe ptsd/depression/migraines. It took 6 or 7 months to gain a 100% P&T VA rating. I had to access my 401k and i had to pay the irs penalties.

My husband is IU p and t. I was forced to leave my career at a very very good job! It has been so hard ever since! I am afraid to pull out money in fear that it will be taxed to gone. Anything thing that I wish was added to this bill is that 100 veterans should. It pay any taxes even non ad velorem. And they should be able to get some government stipends without asset issues causing them to be ineligible! Like my kids should be able to get Medicaid. My son had surgery this year and I am now behind on every other bill for months now. My kids are not eligible for Medicaid because we have more than 2k in the bank!

This bill would allow my wife to withdraw her Retirement Funds with less penalties.

Due to medical issues, I'm having to retire early at 59 years old after working for the last 43 years. I've hung on as long as I could, but my medical issues are becoming to much for me to keep working.Being able to access my funds early, even if it is only 6 months early, would make my transition to retirement so much easier.

Thank you for all your work. I’m appreciative of what you do for Veterans and for this country. Veterans need to be protected from over aggressive, homeowner associations who can unfairly target and cause fines and trauma by harassing and targeting and unfairly, causing penalties and fines on disabled veterans. There should be a bill that protects veterans from such unfair harassment by homeowner associations in every state and there should be an own Busman who can step in that should be consequences and penalties that protect the veteran for which he can exercise rights to stop that unfair, harassment, and expose the association. There should be penalties and fines for unfair targeting and harassment. It is happening whether or not you would like to admit it it is happening homeowner association, typically target veterans and want them out sometimes want them out of the neighborhood and literally I have been told you don’t belong in this neighborhood. You don’t fit in this neighborhood And I have been fine excessively and repeatedly unfairly without due process and in a targeted manner far more than my neighbors this is my story, but there are hundreds of thousands of other veterans trying to live there retirement in peace and enjoy and the HOA makes it difficult. Please protect us.

Could you also include 457 plans?

I am in favor of this based on the little bit contained in the descriptions. However, we know all legislation comes with addon's (political fat) and depending on those final additions or changes, it could change my opinion. The concept is very good for helping to minimize tax impacts to 100% disabled vets and their families who often struggle with making ends meet especially when the vet has disabilities. I also think that all retirement income for 100% disabled veterans should be tax exempt including pensions, social security, IRA's, etc. Thank you for championing this effort on behalf of all veterans.

Every veteran wrote a blank check for the United States. We took the risk to ensure our national security and freedom. We paid our dues and taxes and contributed to retirement during the prime of our lives. It's heartbreaking to hear stories of 100% disabled veterans who may not live long enough to enjoy their life savings or retirement. It seems fair for veterans to withdraw money, without penalty, to get the help they need and survive while having a decent quality of what may be a shortened life.
